Getting Here
Stromboli is only accessible by sea. The journey itself is part of the adventure— watching the volcanic cone grow on the horizon as you approach is an unforgettable experience.
Main Ferry Routes
From Milazzo
Sicily
1.5 - 2.5 hours
Multiple daily
The most popular gateway to the Aeolian Islands. Milazzo offers the most frequent connections year-round, with both hydrofoils (faster) and ferries (slower but cheaper) available.
Pro Tip
Milazzo is easily reached by train from Messina or Catania. The port is a short taxi ride from the train station.
From Naples
Campania
5 - 7 hours
Daily (seasonal)
Direct seasonal connections operate during summer months. The journey offers spectacular views of the Campanian coast and passes other volcanic islands.
Pro Tip
Book well in advance for summer sailings. Consider breaking the journey in Salina or Lipari if the direct route isn't available.
Other Connections
From Lipari
Aeolian Islands
The largest Aeolian island serves as a hub for inter-island connections. Many travelers use Lipari as a base for day trips.
From Salina
Aeolian Islands
The second-largest Aeolian island offers quick connections. A great option if you're island-hopping through the archipelago.
From Tropea / Vibo Marina
Calabria
Seasonal departures from the beautiful Calabrian coast. A good option if you're exploring southern Italy by car.
Travel Tips
Essential information to make your journey smooth
Book Ferry Tickets
During July and August, ferries can sell out. Book at least a few days in advance, especially for weekend travel.
Check Weather
Sea conditions can cause cancellations, particularly in autumn and winter. Have flexible travel dates if possible.
Pack Light
You'll carry your own luggage from the port. Stromboli's paths are narrow and mostly on foot—heavy suitcases are impractical.
Arrival Time
Try to arrive during daylight to experience the dramatic approach to the island and easily find your accommodation.
Ferry Booking Coming Soon
We're working on integrating a simple ferry booking system. In the meantime, ferries can be booked through Liberty Lines, Siremar (Caronte & Tourist), or SNAV depending on your departure port.
Ask About Ferry OptionsOnce You Arrive
Stromboli is almost entirely car-free. The island's narrow paths and relaxed pace make walking the primary means of getting around.
When your ferry arrives at the port of Scari, you'll find electric porters (Ape cars) who can transport your luggage to your accommodation for a small fee. Most places are within 10-15 minutes walk.
The main village areas—San Vincenzo, San Bartolo, and Ficogrande—are all interconnected by charming pedestrian paths. The island's small size means everywhere is accessible on foot.
